TIGER WOODS RETURNS AS CHAIRMAN OF THE BUICK SCRAMBLE FOR 2003
2003 Buick Scramble National Championship
Headquarters Moves to Grande Lakes Orlando
DETROIT, Mich., Jan. 23 - Buick announced today that
Tiger Woods, the world's number one golfer, will return as
honorary chairman of the Buick Scramble national amateur golf
tournament for a second season.
As the honorary chairman of the 2003 Buick Scramble, Woods
will be featured in tournament marketing and advertising materials
and is scheduled to participate in the awards ceremony following
the conclusion of the final round of the National Championships
at Grande Lakes Orlando on October 12.
"Tiger has been an outstanding spokesperson for Buick
since we signed a marketing partnership with him in 1999,"
said Larry Peck, Buick's golf marketing manager. "We
are very excited to announce that he is scheduled to continue
in his role as Buick Scramble Honorary Chairman in 2003, the
20th anniversary of this great tournament."
"I am honored to continue as honorary chairman of this
great event, one that I tried to play when I was an amateur,"
said Woods, who begins his fourth year as a Buick spokesperson.
"I look forward to returning to the exciting atmosphere
of the Buick Scramble National Championships in October this
year."
Woods, 27, has a marketing partnership with Buick. He appears
in Buick advertisements, participates in Buick golf promotions
and uses a golf bag featuring the Buick logo.
The National Championship headquarters for the 2003 Buick
Scramble will move from Walt Disney World Resort to Grande
Lakes Orlando, a brand new world-class golf resort scheduled
to open on July 1. The final round of competition is scheduled
to take place on the new Greg Norman course at Grande Lakes
Orlando's Ritz Carlton Golf Club.
The 2003 Buick Scramble kicks-off with nearly 2,000 local
championship tournaments starting in February. Open to amateur
golfers of all ages and skill levels, participants with certified
USGA Handicap Indexes compete as four-person teams in a scramble-type
format. The local winners advance, along with their respective
host PGA Professional, to one of 130 PGA sectional (regional)
championships. The sectional winners advance to the national
championships in Orlando, October 8-12.
The Buick Scramble offers first class treatment of its participants,
families and guests during national championships week. A
total of 72-holes of tournament golf, two lavish Buick parties
and passes to Universal Studios' theme parks are a few of
the attractions that are in store for PGA Professionals, amateurs
and their families who advance to the national championships.
The Buick Scramble, now in its 20th season and second under
the Buick banner, is sanctioned by the PGA of America. The
tournament is run by Momentum in Troy, Mich.
